The Miners’ Strike: Programme of workshops and events

To mark the 40th anniversary of the Miners’ Strike, The Poetry Business is working with Sarah Wimbush and the National Coal Mining Museum on a series of events, readings and workshops, out of which we are also hoping to compile an anthology of poems.

Workshops

Writing workshops will include:

Online with Ann and Peter Sansom  (Saturday 17th February, 10.30am to 12pm)

and in person at the National Coal Mining Museum with:

Sarah Wimbush (Saturday 16th March, 1pm to 3pm)

Helen Mort (Saturday 27th April, 1pm to 3pm)

Ian Parks (Saturday 22nd June, 1pm to 3pm)

Anthology

We would like to see poems about coal mining or mining communities before, during or after the strike. These can be new or already-published. You can also submit: essays and reminiscence (800 words max); poetry-films, performance poems, music (3 mins max); art and photographs. Send up to six pieces to office@poetrybusiness.co.uk, with ‘Coal Anthology’ in the subject box no later than 30th June. We are hoping to publish a pamphlet in Autumn 2024.
