Writing Days in 2020

In accordance with government guidelines our Sheffield and Manchester Writing Days are currently on hold. In this difficult time, we are offering writing resources online to make up for missed Writing Days and other PB events so that we can ensure our poetry community stays connected and that we keep writing.

Our programme of virtual poetry workshops are a digital alternative to our popular Writing Days, and feature brilliant writing exercises, supportive feedback, and excellent company.

Virtual Writing Workshops

We are offering short writing workshops during the week with celebrated tutors Ann and Peter Sansom and a three-hour workshop on Saturday mornings. The weekday sessions are limited to groups of fourteen poets, and the Saturday workshop will be a slightly larger group of around 18 poets.

Sheffield Writing Days

In my view, the UK’s most astute and effective tutors

Simon Armitage

Usually held on the last Saturday of every month, our Sheffield Writing Days run from 10.15am-4pm, with writing exercises in the morning and a critical workshop in the afternoon. We meet at The Printhouse, 21-23 North Church Street, S1 2DH (morning) and at our new office on Campo Lane in the afternoon. The Print House is just a two minute walk from our office on Campo Lane. Click here for directions.

Bring a poem (and ten copies) for the afternoon workshop – or better still write one up to discuss from the morning session. Places are £35, or £30 concs. Pay on the day – by cash or cheque. You needn’t book in advance, but please do let us know if you are planning to attend.

Manchester Writing Days

The best writing tutors in the world

the Guardian

Our Manchester Writing Days are held in the Manchester Art Gallery (Mosley Street, M2 3JL). This is a wonderful venue for a great day of writing from poems in the studio and from art in the gallery, along with brilliant writing exercises, supportive feedback, and excellent company.

Suggested reading and optional writing tasks to be completed between the monthly sessions will further the experience. Bring a poem (and ten copies) to discuss in the afternoon workshop – or write one up from
the morning session.

Manchester Writing Days run from 10.30am-4pm and usually take place around the second Saturday of every month. Places are £40 or £35 (concs). Click here for directions.

You needn’t book in advance, but please let us know if you are coming along by e-mailing: office@poetrybusiness.co.uk

Pay on the day – by cash or cheque.
