“Excellent”—Carol Ann Duffy, the Guardian
The North is a literary magazine published twice a year by The Poetry Business, and is essential reading for anyone who loves contemporary poetry. Each issue includes: a lively range of international poetry by new and established writers, book reviews from mainstream publishers to smaller presses; critical articles; conversations with writers; and features such as ‘Poets I Go Back To…’ and our celebrated ‘Blind Criticism’ close-readings.
The Poetry Business publishes two issues of The North magazine each year, a summer issue and a winter issue. One year subscriptions are £18 (or £24 for overseas subscribers). Two year subscriptions cost £36 (or £48 for overseas subscribers).
Poets are invited to submit up to six pages of poetry for consideration. We have two submission windows per year:
For the Summer issue (North 66): now closed
For the Winter issue (North 67): opening soon
At the moment we are only accepting online submissions of poetry for The North.
We receive many submissions to The North magazine, and can generally only publish approximately 10% of the submissions we receive. There are no restrictions on subject matter or style, but as a magazine of contemporary poetry, we look for energy, imagination and technique. Please note that unless you hear from us within 8 weeks, you may consider the poems available to be published elsewhere. We will contact you if would like to publish your work.
We accept print ads and inserts in The North magazine, and are also happy to discuss in-kind marketing swaps with relevant organisations. To receive our rate card or propose a swap, please contact: email@example.com
