Geoff Hattersley: 1956 – 2024

We were shocked and saddened to hear that Geoff Hattersley has died. He was 68. Geoff was a truly remarkable writer, a one-off, whose poems understood and chronicled working class life. They are often clear eyed, downbeat and laugh out loud funny all at the same time.

Geoff was important to us, as he was to many poets, through his own unique writing and in the 80s and 90s through his and Jeanette Hattersley’s iconic magazine and press, The Wide Skirt. Geoff had recently published a big new collection, his first for ten years, Instead of an Alibi, with Broken Sleep books.
