As a continuation of our ‘Apart Together’ digital project, The Poetry Business has partnered with The Writing Squad to host three joint digital residencies between February and July 2023.
Each pair of poets will be producing digital content for The Poetry Business, including blog posts, audio recordings, writing prompts and more.
Our Digital Poets-in-Residence for February and March are Ruth Awolola and Celestine Stilwell
Ruth Awolola
Ruth Awolola is a Nigerian Jamaican poet, theatremaker and workshop facilitator based in Manchester, She writes and performs for a variety of different audiences including poetry for children and young people.

Celestine Stillwell
Celestine Stilwell (he/him) is a transmasculine writer currently based in Devon and is a member of The Writing Squad. His writing has been featured in publications such as ‘The North’, ‘Butcher’s Dog’ and ‘BullshitLit’ as well as being nominated for the Forward Prize 2022. As well as writing poetry, Celestine writes script, with his debut theatre production scheduled to be at Edinburgh Fringe this summer, and his poetry film being longlisted for the Outspoken awards. He is currently in the process of working on his debut screenplay and pamphlet.

About The Writing Squad
The Writing Squad provides workshops, 1:1 support and investment for young writers.
Their free two year programme is for writers aged 16-21 who live, work or study in the North of England, after which they continue to provide support writers as they begin their careers.
They have supported 245 writers since 2001.
