January Digital Poet-in-Residence: Jasmine Gray

As part of our ‘Apart Together’ digital project, The Poetry Business has partnered up with The Writing Squad to host a digital residency with a Squad poet each month. Each poet will be producing and posting digital content for The Poetry Business, such as blog posts, audio recordings, writing prompts and more.

Jasmine Gray is our Digital Poet-In-Residence for January.

Jasmine Gray is a Northern writer, with an interest in exploring the female experience and portrayals of the body. She is a Writing Squad graduate and has words in The Book of Bad Betties (Bad Betty Press, 2021), Tilt (Open Eye Gallery, 2021) and The Double Negative (2021). In 2021, she was the winner of the inaugural First Light prize for art criticism and she is currently shortlisted for the Edge Hill MA Short Story Prize. Her debut poetry pamphlet, Let’s Photograph Girls Enjoying Life, is published with Broken Sleep Books (2019).

For her residency, Jasmine will be exploring the relationship between food and poetry by cooking up some blackout poems alongside November’s poet-in-residence Prerana Kumar and a blog post focussing on taste and language. She will be reflecting back on 2021, with writing prompts in the form of poetics diaries, reviews of her favourite reads and revisiting our previous Writing Squad residencies to create a collage poem to enter us into the new year.
